Pelmeni
Pelmeni are delicious little meat dumplings, made out of unleavened dough, and typically filled with cooked meat on the inside.
According to linguist Max Vasmer, the word "pelmeni" comes from the Finno-Ugric language, where it meant "ear bread"*!
Pelmeni are very similar to other kinds of dumplings or potstickers from around Eastern Europe and Asia. Russian pelmeni can be sweet or savory, and either fried or boiled. Typically, savory pelmeni are made from a mixture of several types of meats for the filling.
